Covid 19 response to the artisans – Phase 2
Bangladesh has extended a nationwide lockdown till May 5 as part of measures to stem the spread of coronavirus pandemic. So today is the 38th Day since people are staying at home. During this challenging pandemic moment, the poor people are highly suffering for food crisis because of lockdown situation. Most of the poor families could only sustain by their small savings for a few days. People neither go out for work nor can they buy food as they don’t have any money.
So we have given food and necessary supplies to 400 artisans in Cox’s Bazar and Moulovibazar districts in Phase 2 as a part of our distribution process to keep supporting our rural village artisans. One of the Pebble retailer Shopping for a Change, a US based nonprofit organization, helped us financially to continue our support for artisans. With the help of their support, we have given 500 packets of food and other necessary supplies in Phase 1.
At the same time, our wonderful US partner Marita and Austin from Kahiniwalla raised funds with a gofundme page where they matched the first $1100 raised, to continue our food support for our artisans that will last for 2 weeks. So we have given 100 family packets out of these 400 supports from this funding.
Big thanks to Kahiniwalla and Shopping for a Change for providing the kind of help that we needed for our artisans during this moment. Your financial support has provided much needed stress relief.
We will continue our food support for the artisans in other regions from both of these funding channels next week.
